Title: Recent developments in physics of atmospheric turbulence and planetary boundary layers (PBLs) Abstract: The talk addresses: (i) The aspects of geophysical turbulence and PBLs immediately related to their role as coupling elements in Earth system comprised of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, lithosphere and biosphere (ii) Recent progress in our understanding of the self-organization and non-local features of turbulence, which call for revision of some traditional concepts underlying PBL and turbulence parameterizations in environmental models (iii) A few words about FP7 ERC project PBL-PMES: "Planetary Boundary Layers - Physics, Modelling and Role in Earth System" (2009-2013)
